AIDS stand for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Aids was caused by HIV. The possible way to notice that someone has Aids if they have below 200 T cells, and if they have one or more opportunistic infections. The stages of HIV and Aids are primary infection asymptomatic phase, symptomic phase, and the last step is getting Aids.
